You Can Now Get a GLP-1 Pill for $149 a Month β€” No Injection Required

Updated June 15, 2026 Β· 8 min read

The big news:

If needles were the reason you have been waiting on the sidelines, that reason just disappeared. Two FDA-approved GLP-1 pills are now available β€” and they start at $149 a month without insurance.

Two Pills, Two Different Approaches

For years, every GLP-1 weight-loss medication required a weekly injection. That changed in January 2026 when the Wegovy pill launched, followed by Eli Lilly's orforglipron in April. Both are taken once daily. Both are FDA-approved. But they work a little differently, and those differences matter depending on your lifestyle.

The Wegovy Pill (Oral Semaglutide)

This is the same molecule that has been available as an injection since 2021 β€” semaglutide β€” now in pill form. In clinical trials, people who took it as directed lost an average of about 15-17% of their body weight over about 15 months. That is comparable to the injection.

There is one catch: you need to take it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach with just a small sip of water, then wait 30 minutes before eating, drinking, or taking other medications. For some people, that is easy. For others β€” especially parents with hectic mornings or people who take other medications early β€” it is a real hassle.

Pricing starts at $149/month for the starting dose, going up to $299/month for the highest dose. With commercial insurance and a savings card, some patients pay as little as $25/month.

Orforglipron (Eli Lilly)

This one is different in an important way: there are no food, water, or timing restrictions. You take it once a day, whenever you want, with or without a meal. For people who tried the Wegovy pill and found the fasting requirement impractical, orforglipron removes that barrier completely.

The weight loss is a bit more modest β€” about 7-11% in clinical trials β€” but the convenience factor is significant. And for patients switching from GLP-1 injections, a clinical trial showed orforglipron can maintain the weight loss you have already achieved. Cash-pay price is approximately $149/month.

That is completely normal. A telehealth consultation is a low-pressure way to discuss your options with a licensed prescriber who can help you figure out which medication β€” pill or injection β€” fits your body, your budget, and your life.
