Everything You Need to Know About Traveling with GLP-1 Medication This Summer

Updated June 15, 2026 · 7 min read

Your Medication Can Travel — It Just Needs a Little Planning

Summer trips should be fun, not stressful. If you are on a GLP-1 medication, a little preparation means you can travel without worrying about your treatment. Here is everything you need to know.

Temperature Rules

Injectable GLP-1s (Wegovy, Zepbound) must stay refrigerated (36-46°F) before first use. After first use, they can be at room temperature up to 86°F for 28 days (semaglutide) or 21 days (tirzepatide). The critical number is 86°F — and a car on a summer day can hit 130°F within 30 minutes.

GLP-1 pills (Wegovy pill, orforglipron) should stay below 86°F and be protected from moisture. Keep them in their original packaging until you are ready to take them.

If your pen got too warm:

Do not use it. There is no way to tell by looking at the pen whether heat has degraded the medication. Contact your pharmacy about a replacement. Better safe than ineffective.
